Rowing 101: Qualification

Learn more on the qualification process of Olympic rowing.

A total of 550 athletes will compete in rowing events at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games: 331 men and 219 women. Each qualified nation represented can enter no more than one boat per event.

The first opportunity to qualify boats for the 2016 Rio Games was at the 2015 World Championships in Aiguebelette, France. The remaining opportunities for countries to qualify include three Continental Qualification Regattas (African, Americas and Asian/Oceania) in October and November 2015 and a European and Final Qualification Regatta in May 2016.
